EXAMPLES OF APPROVED SERVICES

Personal Care Tasks

  • Bathing

  • Feeding

  • Shaving

  • Brushing teeth

  • Washing, drying and brushing/combing hair

  • Washing hands/face

  • Applying makeup and non-prescription lotion

  • Dressing

  • Changing diapers

  • Assisting on/off bedpan

  • Help with use of urinal

  • Assisting with feminine hygiene needs

  • Assisting with hygiene

  • Preparing toileting supplies and equipment (not catheter equipment)

  • Transferring you from one position to another on the bed or chair

  • Assisting you with putting on/removing leg braces and prostheses

  • Assisting with wheelchair

  • Reminding you to take your medicine

  • Preparing your meals

General Cleaning

  • Dusting surfaces (shelves, tables, countertops)

  • Vacuuming floors and rugs

  • Sweeping and mopping floors

  • Wiping down spills

  • Taking out the trash (kitchen and bathroom)

Kitchen

  • Loading and unloading the dishwasher

  • Wiping down counters and appliances

  • Cleaning the sink

Bathroom

  • Wiping down counters, faucets, and toilets

  • Cleaning the shower/bathtub (light cleaning, not deep scrubbing)

  • Emptying trash cans

Laundry

  • Changing bed linens and making the bed

  • Washing and drying clothes

  • Putting laundry away

Other

  • Watering houseplants (minimal care)

  • Making the bed

  • Organizing clutter on surfaces

 

EXAMPLES OF SERVICES NOT APPROVED

Services that are not usually included (Usually considered Deep Cleaning):

  • Deep cleaning tasks like oven cleaning, refrigerator scrubbing, or window or blind washing

  • Carpet shampooing or floor waxing

  • Moving furniture to clean underneath

  • Organizing large areas like closets or garages

  • Yardwork or other outdoor chores

  • Scrubbing toilets, bathtubs, or showers

Services that must be provided by a person with professional or technical training, such as:

  • catheter care more than emptying

  • washing infected parts of the body

  • tube feeding without approved HMA

  • administering medicine, including injections, that is ordered by your doctor unless you are able to make medical decisions for yourself and would self-administer if not for a functional physical limitation.

Services that also help those you live with unless those persons also receive attendant services from HomeCare Family. For example:

  • cleaning floor and furniture in parts of your house you do not use

  • cooking for everyone who lives with you (shared meals approved)

  • buying groceries or household items that are not for your use

  • washing and drying clothes and bed linens not for your use.
