3.17 - Acceptance or Giving of Gifts
PURPOSE
To provide guidelines on the Agency and/or employees giving or accepting gifts to/from clients.
POLICY
HomeCare Family discourages the Agency and its employees from giving or accepting gifts to/from clients but will, in some cases, permit the occasional acceptance if:
rejecting the gift will negatively affect the client; and,
providing the gift:
is not made in cash;
does not exceed $50 in value;
is not given on a regular or frequent basis;
is not given in an attempt to influence conduct or decision making; and,
does not compromise, or appear to compromise, in any way the integrity of the Agency or the employee.
PROCEDURES
Employees shall report any gift given or received to the Manager/Administrator or Supervisor, who will:
assess the circumstances in which it was made; and,
determine whether it shall be approved or politely refused.
