3.17 - Acceptance or Giving of Gifts


 

PURPOSE

To provide guidelines on the Agency and/or employees giving or accepting gifts to/from clients.

POLICY

HomeCare Family discourages the Agency and its employees from giving or accepting gifts to/from clients but will, in some cases, permit the occasional acceptance if:

  1. rejecting the gift will negatively affect the client; and,

  2. providing the gift:

    1. is not made in cash;

    2. does not exceed $50 in value;

    3. is not given on a regular or frequent basis;

    4. is not given in an attempt to influence conduct or decision making; and,

    5. does not compromise, or appear to compromise, in any way the integrity of the Agency or the employee.

PROCEDURES

  1. Employees shall report any gift given or received to the Manager/Administrator or Supervisor, who will:

    1. assess the circumstances in which it was made; and,

    2. determine whether it shall be approved or politely refused.
