4.15.3 - Cancelled Shifts


 

PURPOSE

Set standards for all employes regarding cancelled shifts.  Contractors and employees may periodically need to cancel shifts they have accepted.  This policy is in place to ensure consistent continuation of care, as well as reduce excessive absences that may cause a disruption in business operations by setting a standard amount of cancelled shift allowed in a specific time period of employment/contract.

 

POLICY

Cancelled shifts, regardless of validity, may not exceed the amount allowed by the agency and set in the guidelines below.

 

GUIDELINES

  • Cancelled shifts are any shifts cancelled by the caregiver after being accepted.  This is true for both shifts cancelled with advance notice, and with short notice.  Both cancellation situations may cause a disruption in business operations.

  • Cancelled shifts will be considered excessive when the following number of cancelled shifts are requested:

    • 0-90 days of employment/contract: Agency discretion

    • No more than three (3) cancelled shifts every three (3) months are allowed.

  • Cancelled shifts that exceeds the approved amounts could lead to:

    • Progressive discipline

    • Loss of client assignment

    • Reduction in annual pay increase

    • Termination
